Thanks Marc, we'll have a chat with our doc. Just trying to get a rough sense of what to expect even though it is very difficult to tell before he is even born. Enjoy the match!
That is part of the reason why we are considering this. Time for medical aid option choices and we are debating whether it is worth spending an additional R1k a month for the next plan.
If you are a nervous wreck like I am? Every week. If you a normal person? Not that frequently. But I think it would be worth the upgrade in medical plans.
My daughter is 10 now. She's only had antibiotic once in her life. If your wife is planning on nursing for a good chunk of time, I bet your baby will be quite healthy. We did some old fashioned things - if she was really stuffy, we'd get up in the middle of the night, turn the hot water on in the shower and sit in the steamy bathroom for 30 min, use that suction bulb thing, to get the gunk out of her nose... things like that. We did not take her to the pedi a lot. When is your wife due?
Our baby is due to arrive around the middle of next month and every indication so far is that he is doing just fine. Hopefully he will be as healthy as the next kid and not need any special medical care. I guess that is part of having kids, you just don't know till you know.

Thanks for your input! I would hate to find ourselves with huge costs we could have prevented or mitigated.
